Marc Gittelman M.D. | F.A.C.S.


Dr. Marc Gittelman is one of the founders and directors of Uro-Medix, an 18 person Urology group now a subdivision of 21st Century Oncology. He has been practicing in Miami for the past 22 years.

Academics:

Dr. Gittleman completed his medical school as well as his General Surgical and Urology training in New York City at the Mount Sinai Medical Center, where he has received numerous awards including essay prizes and honors in all clinical rotations. He was inducted into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society and completed his Chief Residency at Mount Sinai in New York. He received his undergraduate degree from Tufts University with Summa Cum Laude honors and was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa Society.

Dr. Gittelman served as Clinical Assistant Professor in the department of Medicine at the University of Miami for 6 years teaching and training medical students at the University. He is frequently invited to lecture physicians around the country at a variety of Universities and Medical Conferences and also in many community settings.

Dr. Gittleman has special training in the following areas of Urology:

Minimally Invasive treatment of Prostate Enlargement (BPH); Prostate Health and Cancer Prevention; Evaluation and Treatment of Prostate Cancer at all Stages; Sexual Health for Men including disorders of ED, and low testosterone; Sexual Health issues for Women; Prevention of Kidney stones and minimally invasive treatment of stones; Women’s Urinary problems including leakage and infections

Research Activity

Dr. Gittleman founded and developed South Florida Medical Research (SFMR), an internationally well known research center where he has directed over 350 clinical trials in an effort to further research to develop new medications in the field of Urology. Prior research has included involvement in pivotal clinical trials submitted to the FDA with virtually every medicine for prostate enlargement, urinary incontinence and sexual health. Some of the products he has contributed to the research and development include; Proscar, Avodart, Flomax, Uroxatral, Rapaflo, Jalyn, Viagra, Levitra, Cialis, MUSE, Lupron, Zoladex, Casodex, Trelstar, Firmagon, Detrol, Vesicare, Oxytrol, Sanctura, and Gelnique.

Dr. Gittleman consults with numerous biotech companies in ongoing efforts to develop new and better medications in the field of Prostate Enlargement, Prostate
Cancer, Urinary Incontinence, Erectile Dysfunction, and in the field of Men’s and Women’s Sexual Health.

Medical Publications and Presentations:

Dr. Gittelman has contributed to many medical publications including medical journal articles, abstracts, and contributions to medical book chapters. He has been an author, co-author or contributor to nearly 20 articles in the most prestigious Urology publication, The Journal of Urology. Dr. Gittelman lectures frequently to physicians around the country on numerous topics including BPH, Prostate Cancer, Overactive Bladder and Sexual Health. He presents new research data several times a year at numerous medical conferences including the national congress for the American Urology Association. He is invited to teach nationally and internationally to other physicians on a variety of topics. Dr. Gittelman also participates as a lecturer in continuing medical educational lectures on a local, national and international level.

Patient Education:

Dr. Gittelman is proud to have served as a columnist for the Miami Herald for 4 years during which time he wrote a column on general urology topics as well as Sexual Health. Dr. Gittelman founded the Miami Center for Sexual Health. The center is one of the first institutions in the country to provide a fully integrated approach for patient’s, sexual health problems. Dr. Gittelman served on the science committee of the International Society for the Study of Women’s Sexual Health (ISSWSH) and served as the chair of this international meeting in 2007.

Dr. Gittelman founded and produced the annual meeting, “The Miami Update on Women’s and Men’s Sexual Health”. This continuing education meeting featured some of the world’s best known professors in the field and attracted a medical audience of up to 350 clinicians. Dr. Gittelman was featured on a weekly radio show on WIOD for several years as a Urologic expert. Dr. Gittelman is a chapter contributor to the well known book: “Fifty Things to Do when You Turn Fifty:, a compilation of essays from a variety of international authors including Dianne von Furstenberg, Erica Jong, Garison Keiler and Harold Rushner.
